Shelby in her old 20 gallon long tank

50 gallon rubbermaid tub

this thing was very cheap I found it for at my local Wal-Mart, this was a great setup at first, my 2 baskers loved this setup since it gives them more area than the smaller 40 gallon tub I had them in.

!!! WARNING !!!
people considering this type of housing should consider the following, if they want one sure its cheap but it still need some extra things to become better. this setup didnt last with me, I owned it for about a month before it broke, the bottom "legs" it has cracked, they didnt support the weight of the water, it also stressed on the sides, so i suggest putting a frame around the whole tub. I started off with 5 inches of water, it lasted it was good, then about 2weeks later i filled it to the line which is about 8 inches, then within the next 2 days the water started to lower significantly, my turts where in about 3 inches of water, I was upset My new setup was broken, so Im going to have to all out and get the biggest pond I can afford, and hope nothing like this happens. I would consider a rubbermaid stock tank instead of this type of tub since its built to hold water for the longer periods.

I caught Pencil Neck basking in the new 50 gallon setup

you can see my 2 growing baskers, Pencil neck(False Map turtle) on the basking rock, and Shelby(Red Eared Slider) in the water.

this^ is my new outdoors semi-aquatic setup

this was a sandbox with a top that my aunt had and it had a top, I tried it with just some plasctic chicken wire that a freind gave me and it worked bu my false map turtle was able to escape. I took the top and cut a circle into it, then I placed the chicken wire in the circlethen used some garbage chicken wire twist-ties and tied it to the 10-15 holes I drilled into the top. there I was done in about half an hour, I let the water cure in nature for about 2-3 days and I will let my semi-aquatic herps live in it during the summer while it stays warm.

I did not have much success with this cage since the Miami whether wouldnt permit for me to use it since it would heat up to 98+ degrees, it would be an interesing set up i thought but too many set backs, i threw it away, the turtles are housed in a 50 gallon rubbermaid tub for now until i can finally get up my 90-125 gallon turtle pond in my new house.
